Mills Godwin ended Henrico’s unbeaten run, stopping the Warriors 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the Central Region boys tennis quarterfinals.
Henrico, the Capital District champion, had run off 16 straight wins before bowing to the region power from the Colonial District.
The Eagles got wins from Zack King at No. 3, Michael Holt at four, Anthony Palesis at five and Ajay Sundar at six in singles.
While Henrico’s top two, Arjun Venkatasubramanian and Matt Zimmerman, forced a third set with second set wins in their singles matches with Edgar Vitkovski and Arjun Karthikeyan, the Eagles finished the Warriors.
Palesis and Alex Yachanin had no trouble with Taylor and Kabir Sodhi, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Venkat and Zimmerman were disappointed the match ended without their matches finishing, desperately wanting to put points on the board for the up-and-coming, youthful squad.
“We were a little worried down the ladder because we really didn’t know what they had,” King said. “We were glad we came out and took care of those matches.”
